Honestly, I'm not big on traditional furniture in general, let alone in the bedroom. However, I like checking out any given number of sets just to make sure I make the right decor decisions. First things first, this set is not made of solid wood. It's made of wood veneer and solids, which is not always the best quality of wood. You have to keep in mind though that solid wood furniture is expensive and heavy. Real solid wood can warp and crack over time so it's all going to come down to personal preference. Do you go for the solid wood for its beauty and real grain, or do you go for the less expensive but usually good looking wood veneers? Personally, I have to look at the cost but that's just me. Wood veneers appear more like real wood from a distance than up close. Since they're not finished in the same way as real wood, the finish can sometimes look more like paint. With the Louis Philippe Set, it's sort of a mix. The mirror looks more like a painted finish that I don't particularly like but the bulk of the case goods finish look pretty great, except around the bottom of the pieces. The marble tops are faux marble that looks really great from far away, however, when you get close you can tell it's fake. In some cases it almost looks like a picture of marble that's been put on the top. I like the look of these pieces over all. The bed is my favourite. It looks the best. If I were buying from this set, I'd like to buy the bed and find different case pieces. Of course that's hard because of different finishes and colors available. Matching wouldn't be easy. There are some great features on the case pieces. They all have felt lined top drawers for jewellery or knickknacks. The mirror has a bevelled border that's a nice accent to the piece and it attaches directly to the dresser. There doesn't appear to be any wall hanging pieces, though they may come with the product. The hardware on the drawers looks nice but saves on money because it's made with brass. I'm not impressed with the depth of the drawers, the width is nice on the chest but the dresser seems a bit small to me. The inside of the drawers are unfinished which never really makes a difference to me but some people probably care. There is a flat board on the back and bottom of each case piece to keep dust and dirt from getting inside your dresser which is great. You'll have to be careful and not let anything fall out of the drawers inside the dresser. It would probably be hard to retrieve. The bed is beautiful. The scroll detail on the footboard and headboard compliments the traditional sleigh bed style. I'm average height and the bottom of the rails comes about to my mid-to-lower calf. Note that this isn't a platform bed. It has two support slats with center support legs that have an adjustable piece to fit any floor or carpet height. If you wanted to use a bunkie board or add additional slats to this bed to make it a platform bed, the mattress would come to about my knees and I'm 5' 6". Overall, this set isn't my style and the case goods look less expensive up close than they do in the imagery. It looks great all together and I would recommend this set to someone who loves the traditional look and doesn't mind the quality of wood veneers over solid hardwood. Though, this is one I'd recommend seeing in person before you buy. -
