 Wholesale Furniture Brokers (WFB) is currently expanding its Tech department and is actively searching for someone to fulfill that need. We are currently hiring for the position of Senior Technologist.

WFB is a Kamloops company that has been consistently growing since it dove into eCommerce in 2002. We are still very young at heart and encourage a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Hours: Full-time 40 hrs / week
Wage: To be negotiated, based on experience - Medical and Dental after 3 months

Description:
Wholesale Furniture Brokers is just putting the finishing touches on a brand new, in-house built site management system. The new platform is currently in the first phase of roll-out with many new features on the list to come. This new system doubles as both a front end content management system, and a complete order processing system for our sales and admin staff. The successful candidate's primary role will be designing, developing, and implementing new systems and features into our web platform. The Senior Technologist will supply guidance to more junior tech staff, providing feedback and design assistance.

A background in project management will be considered an asset as this position is expected to grow into the role of Team Lead within the software development team.

The candidate's main responsibility will be Software Development:

  • Maintain and improve order management systems
  • Act as lead designer for implementation of new systems
  • Analyze current business processes and recommend new systems to improve performance
  • Assist management in planning tech priorities within WFB

The candidate will also, as needed, be responsible for:

  • Trouble shoot, upgrade and maintain our Linux servers
  • Provide desktop support for Windows computers within the office
  • Research and implement new tools to improve overall productivity
Required Skills & Knowledge:
The candidate will have 3 - 5 years experience in an e-commerce environment designing web-based systems. Experience in a Linux-Apache-MySql-PHP (LAMP) style environment is a definite asset, but not required.  The job will require usage of all the following skills and technologies:
  • PHP Zend Framework
  • MySQL
  • Strong Object Oriented Design
  • jQuery
  • Model-View-Controller Architecture
  • Website Interface Design
  • Source Control Management
  • Project Management
  • Exceptional English skills, both written and spoken

Leadership skills will be very heavily considered in the application. The successful candidate will be expected to gradually take over day to day management responsibilities for our software department, currently consisting of four members. The candidate will work directly with the Operations Manager and CEO to ensure team priorities are clear, and goals are being met.
