Platform Beds in Kelowna, BC
A platform bed is a bed frame with built in mattress support, either a row of slats or a solid base, so your mattress sits directly on the bed without a box spring or separate foundation. Wholesale Furniture Brokers sells platform beds to Kelowna and the Central Okanagan in upholstered linen, faux leather, oak and reclaimed wood, many with storage drawers or a lift up storage base. Shoppers can see platform beds at our Kamloops showroom before buying, then pick up their order or have it delivered to their home in Kelowna and surrounding areas.
Why choose a platform bed?
- No foundation to buy: The frame supports the mattress on its own, so you only need the bed and a mattress.
- A cleaner, modern look: Without a box spring, the bed sits lower and the mattress fits flush with the frame.
- Better use of space: Many platform beds add drawers or a lift up storage base underneath, so the space under the mattress does double duty.
- Works with today's mattresses: Memory foam, hybrid and pocket coil mattresses all sit well on a platform bed.
Choosing a headboard material
Linen: Tufted linen headboards, like the True Contemporary Drew, Sutton and Victoria, add soft texture and a tailored look. The Saunderson and Lumen frame the bed with a wingback headboard, and the Lumen adds built in LED lighting.
Faux leather: The True Contemporary Mirabel comes in espresso, white or grey faux leather. It wipes clean easily, which makes it practical for kids' rooms and homes with pets.
Wood: Rustic Classics Muskoka oak beds in black and Tofino oak beds in beachwood come with an all wood or upholstered headboard. The Whistler and Blackcomb reclaimed wood beds have a weathered, rustic character.
The Ashford pairs a grey or beige fabric frame with oak legs for a lighter, Scandinavian inspired feel that suits the clean, contemporary interiors of many newer Kelowna homes in neighbourhoods like Wilden and the Upper Mission.
Low profile or standard height?
Low profile platform beds, such as the True Contemporary Drew and the EZ Base, keep the mattress close to the floor for a relaxed, modern look that makes a small bedroom feel more open. Taller frames with a raised base or storage drawers are easier to get in and out of, and leave room for storage underneath. Consider your mattress thickness as well: a 12 to 14 inch mattress on a low frame gives a comfortable overall height for most adults.
Platform beds with built in storage
If your Kelowna condo or townhome is short on closet space, a storage platform bed adds room without adding furniture. Options include the True Contemporary Victoria and EZ Base with two drawers, the Rustic Classics Whistler with four drawers, the Modubox Mate's with three or six drawers, and the Byron and Saunderson lift up storage beds in grey linen. Browse all Kelowna beds for bunk beds and more.
See platform beds in person, then pick up or get delivery
Visit our showroom and warehouse at Unit 103, 1366 Hugh Allan Drive in Kamloops to compare headboard fabrics and wood finishes before you buy. In stock orders are available for same day pickup; call ahead at 1-866-652-0352 if you order online. We also deliver to Kelowna, West Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland and surrounding areas, with free basic home delivery on most orders (some conditions apply). See our Kelowna furniture store page for more about shopping with us. Pair your new bed with a mattress from our Kelowna mattresses collection, or choose the Mirabel bed and mattress bundle, and finish the room with Kelowna bedroom furniture.
Kelowna Platform Beds FAQ
What type of mattress works best on a platform bed?
Memory foam, hybrid and pocket coil mattresses all work well on a platform bed. Foam mattresses need even support, so choose a frame with closely spaced slats or a solid base, and check the bed's product page for slat details.
Are platform beds good for small bedrooms?
Yes. A low profile platform bed takes up less visual space than a bed with a box spring, which makes a room feel larger. A platform bed with storage drawers or a lift up base can also replace a dresser, freeing up floor space.
How do I keep a mattress from sliding on a platform bed?
A non slip mattress pad or grip mat placed between the mattress and the platform keeps the mattress in place. Beds with a raised edge or a footboard also help hold the mattress steady.
Do platform beds need assembly?
Most platform beds arrive in boxes and need to be assembled, which usually takes one or two people with basic tools. Choosing white glove delivery with assembly at checkout means the delivery team builds the bed for you.
